5 Ways To Stay on The Weight Loss Train
Every New Year’s we make a goal to ourselves that has become somewhat of a joke; I’m going to lose weight this year and get fit! It’s become so common that TV shows and late night hosts joke about it yearly. The reason why it’s the most commonly broken New Year’s Resolution? Because it’s hard! Weight loss isn’t something that happens overnight with a snap of the fingers. A lot of people think it’s all about working out, which is very difficult to keep up with when you have work and other commitments that eat at your time. Half the battle with losing weight and getting fit is in your diet! Here are five of our top tips to help you lose weight and be healthier this year.
Drink Water
In a study done last year, it was found that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. This isn’t something you actively think about, but not drinking enough water has consequences on your body. It’s key to proper digestion of vitamins and nutrients, and
boosts your metabolism by as much as 24-30%. Also, most times you’re feeling a craving it’s most likely because you’re thirsty. This is maybe the easiest way to start living a healthier life, and the first step in helping you reach your weight loss goals.
Eggs for Breakfast
Eating eggs for breakfast has a number of benefits that will help you get healthier. They are low in calories and high in protein. Protein rich foods keep you fuller, longer. An egg based breakfast also prevents you from turning to starchy foods like bagels, muffins, and cereals that turn into fat quickly. If you’re not a fan of eggs just go to anything high in protein and low in saturated fats. These types of foods will keep you full and prevent cravings.
Cut Back on Sugar
Most people are eating way too much sugar. High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) is found in lots of processed foods and its effects on the body are not good. Studies have shown it is associated with obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and others. Pay attention to sugar content and try to avoid HFCS. Instead opt for all natural cane sugar or stevia leaf. Both of these are a healthier alternative.
No More Refined Carbs
Refined carbohydrates like white bread and pasta are carbs that have been stripped of their fibrous nutritious qualities. These carbs spike blood sugar rapidly, leading to hunger and cravings. Good carbs are whole grains, beans, vegetables, and fruits high in fiber. Fiber helps to slow down the absorption of nutrients which in turn helps regulate your blood sugar levels and prevent cravings. It takes some work but it can really be as easy as getting your next sandwich with a whole wheat bun.
Half-Plate
Eat half your plate, that’s it. The next time you’re out to eat and your food comes and it’s this humongous portion don’t feel like you need to down it. Save half for another meal and spread it out. This is an easy way to work on portion control and save yourself a little bit of money as well.
There’s no magic weight loss pill or remedy that will make you skinny overnight, but following these steps can help you reach your goals and stay motivated along the way.
